Coincidental that he noticed her
that night – coincidental, too, that she was even there. While normally she
would treat herself to the ever-monotonous Friday night movie and bowl of
popcorn, something in Leigh told herself to venture out that night, as unusual
as it was for such a shy and introverted girl.
"It was fate," an over-enthused friend later confirmed with more than a little
excitement. "If only fate were that far on MY side."
Wrapped in a pale pink dress that had felt tight enough to send her self
consciousness into an uproar, Leigh had stood, awkwardly to say the least, at
the entrance to the club. Inside the doorway she'd paused to look around,
questioning for the hundredth time her decision to go out. Where people were.
People she didn't know.
"Excuse me," said a voice from behind her as she felt something touch her back.
Whirling around she was confronted with a sight that threatened to make her lose
her cool. The blonde, blue-eyed singer stood mere inches from her body and
looked at her with an apologetic raise of his eyebrows. "I'm so sorry, I came in
quickly through the door and you were right there..."
With frantic speed Leigh's brain searched for the right words. Actually, any
words might have been better than the awkward silence that came about. How she
managed to swallow that squeal that was lodged in her throat she'd never
understand.
And as she failed to come up with a response, Nick Carter scanned his eyes over
her curiously. "Are you alright?" he finally managed.
Finding her voice again, Leigh gushed out breathlessly, "Oh, oh yes, yes, I'm
sorry, it's just... Do you have any idea who you are?"
Rolling her eyes at her own stupidity, Leigh felt as though she just might die.
'Do you have any idea who you are?' Embarrassed, she willed the ground to
swallow her whole.
Nick's eyes sparkled as he supressed a laugh. "You're a fan, are you?"
"I'm so glad you're better at piecing things together than I am," Leigh said
gratefully, saved from having to continue with such idiot questions.
He smiled. "Oh, hey, we should probably move away from the door," Nick continued
as someone else weaved their way into the club. Lightly he touched Leigh's arm
to steer her to the left.
Leigh felt herself shiver at his touch. Nick Carter's touch. All she could do to
keep her calm was to pray she didn't faint.
"So what did you say your name was?" Nick asked, stepping back in front of her
and therefore releasing the contact with her arm. Leigh hid the disappointment
in her face.
"Oh, it's Leigh. Hi." She smiled nervously and did her best to act a bit less
frilly. "And I guess I won't be needing your name."
"Guess not," said Nick, meeting Leigh's smile with one of his own. "So how long
have you been a fan?"
"Oh wow, um... I don't know really." Seeing a bit of a strange look flash over
Nick's face, Leigh continued, "I mean I know most girls could toss out an exact
date, but I don't remember. I mean I don't think it even happened all at once. I
don't think I just heard a song and said, 'Wow, I fricken love that!'" Here she
paused because Nick laughed. "I guess it was just a gradual thing... At some
point along the way I just fell in love with your music."
Feeling like she'd said enough Leigh stopped to notice Nick looking into her
eyes, and instantly her heart melted. "...You're all very beautiful singers..."
"Thank you," Nick said, in a tone that said he meant it.
By this time Leigh felt her heart drumming faster than she'd ever known it to,
and for once she felt like really taking a chance, being like all the other
girls. Something she'd never really done before. Without taking her eyes off
Nick, she stepped in closer until she could feel his breath on her face. "Tell
me," she whispered softly, "is this a dream?"
Nick gazed down at Leigh and with skilled hands placed the tips of his fingers
lightly on the small of her back. "I hope not."
At the touch of his hands, Leigh felt her stomach flip-flop in anticipation. "If
it is a dream then when do we wake up?"
The resounding music that blared from the speakers reached everyone's ears, but
Leigh heard it only as a faint rumble in the background as slowly she drew
closer to Nick, unable to tear her eyes away from his. Was this it? Was she
actually going to kiss him? Such frantic thoughts raced at lightning speed
through her mind.
So softly her lips met his, and tentatively Nick's hand reached up to caress her
cheek. Confident this would last, Leigh slid her arms up around his neck and
tangled a bit of his hair around her index finger.
She felt as if everything else in the world melted away to nothing as she was
held in Nick's arms in that small club on that Friday night. She heard nothing,
saw nothing; there wasn't anything that managed to penetrate her mindframe as
her body stayed entertwined in Nick's skillful arms. Carefully he reached one
hand back down to the small of her back to caress it with such tenderness she
could have cried. If she could have pulled away from him.
Minutes passed before Nick reluctantly pulled away. His breathing a bit heavier
now, he gazed at Leigh with a concerned look in his eyes. "I feel like I'm
taking advantage of you."
"You're not... You're not," Leigh promised with intensity. Then she bit her
bottom lip before glancing at the crowded dance floor a few feet away. "Do you
think maybe we could get out of here? Go somewhere quiet?"
Immediately Nick nodded, then clasped her hand and headed back towards the door,
holding it open for Leigh to walk through. Outside, he hailed a cab while Leigh
sorted through what had just happened in her mind. Dreaming, she must be
dreaming. Well, either that or she'd turned into Cindy Crawford. Feeling
intoxicated with glee, she giggled to herself as a cab rolled up to the curb and
Nick ushered her in.
He gave the cab driver the address of a hotel before sitting back and turning to
Leigh. "It's where I'm staying," he explained.
"Hey... I know you. You're one of them Backster Kids, aren't you?" the gruff cab
driver noted, while peering back at Nick from the rearview mirror.
Demonstrating the fact that he'd been through this before many a time, Nick
flashed a nonchalant smile. "Yeah, yeah, the Backstreet Boys."
"Ohh, wow, my daugher, Tina, she loves you guys," the cab driver said with a
grin.
Nick was polite as he signed his autograph on a spare napkin before paying the
cab driver, then taking Leigh's hand and leading her into the hotel. She was
surprised as he gave the man behind the front desk a wave before heading towards
the elevators. "That's Charlie," Nick explained as he pushed the 'up' button on
the wall. "We stay here everytime we come to the city; he knows me by now."
Leigh sucked her breath in as she walked into Nick's hotel suite. "God, this
place is gorgeous!" she gushed, turning slowly in a circle as she marveled at
all the furniture and decoration.
"Yeah, it is, huh?" said Nick, smiling at her enthusiasm.
Suddenly Leigh was taken off-guard when Brian strolled into the room from the
balcony she hadn't noticed before. "Oh – hi," he said politely as he stopped
short upon seeing a strange girl standing in the middle of the room. He offered
his hand and a smile, raising his eyebrows in question.
"Bri, this is Leigh," Nick introduced, stepping up by her side. "I just met
her... Can you maybe give us a little while?"
"Oh yeah, sure man," Brian said, shaking Leigh's hand. "I was just heading out
anyway. It was nice meeting you," he said to Leigh with a gentlemanly smile and
then patted Nick on the back on his way out. "Be good, kids!"
"Oh my God," Leigh breathed as she heard the door shut. "It's like God reached
into my head and pulled out my deepest fantasies."
Nick laughed and stalked over to the couch, flinging himself down on it. "You
always dreamed of meeting the Backstreet Boys, eh?"
"Wow, you could say that..." Leigh said, the reality of it all washing over her.
Suddenly she felt lightheaded.
"C'mere," Nick said, gesturing her over to the couch with his hands.
Without hesitation she made her way to the couch. Nick sat up to make room for
her and patted the couch cushion with an inviting grin. "Is this place quiet
enough for you?"
Leigh didn't answer. In one swift motion she sat down and reached forward,
pressing her lips to Nick's. The minutes she'd waited from the club 'till now
suddenly felt like an eternity as her lips hungrily met with his again. Nick
responded to her fervor, sliding in closer to her and allowing his fingers to
dance along her back, her arms, her shoulders.
Passionately Leigh clung to him, all her nervousness and insecurity about the
situation gone. Daring to slip her tongue to his, she was delighted to find him
follow her example. Gracefully she leaned back, slowing her kisses and gently
pulling Nick's body down on top of her.
Under the weight of the man of her wildest dreams, Leigh stopped to catch her
breath, tentatively pulling her lips from his. She could feel his quickened
breath as their mouths unseparated. She watched his face closely in the few
seconds he took before opening his eyes, and marveled at how she had attracted
such an angel to her. "What's wrong?" he asked in a hushed voice, tucking a
stray strand of hair behind Leigh's ear.
"Nothing, I just... need to catch my breath," she said, tracing a finger softly
along Nick's cheek. "I can't believe I'm here. With you. I'm almost afraid it's
all going to suddenly disappear."
"Oh, it won't, it won't – I'm really here, see?" For proof, Nick softly kissed
Leigh's lips and then pulled away to look at her once more. "It's real, I'm
here. I'm not going to just go away."
Pursing his lips together, Nick sat up on his knees. He tore off his jacket and
flung it across the room. "That was real, too, you know," he said, smiling down
at Leigh. "And this is real, too," he added, snapping the wifebeater he wore
underneath.
With a curious look on her face, Leigh sat up from underneath him to reach over
and touch the shirt. "I hope so," she said quietly and then slowly began to tug
the wifebeater up and off Nick's chest. Bit by tiny bit she edged it up until
finally she lovingly pulled it up and over his head, exposing his bare chest
beneath.
Curiously, Nick watched this girl he'd just met and marveled that he'd found her
in this city of thousands. Maybe the odds were on his side for once.
Carefully Leigh traced a finger softly from Nick's chest down to his stomach,
then tugged slightly at the waist of his pants. She looked up to search his eyes
as her hands felt their way around his chest. Her voice was almost tearful as
she said, "You're so beautiful, Nick."
He reached for one of her hands and entwined it in his own. "Please don't say
things like that..."
Leigh tilted her face to the side in question. "Why?"
"It makes me feel... self conscious."
"I'm sorry," Leigh said, letting her free fingers roam down his bare arm now. "I
would have thought you heard that kind of thing all the time."
"It doesn't matter. Sometimes that even makes it worse. Sure, it's flattering,
but... When people say things like that, I feel like I have a standard to live
up to. You know? When people, especially young girls, place me on a pedestal
like that, I feel like I'm going to fail them and even disappoint them someday
when they realize I'm just a regular guy."
With sympathetic eyes, Leigh again apologized. "It's so sad to think you'll
never believe a compliment like that."
"Would you?" Nick asked honestly, following Leigh's searching hand with his
eyes.
"No one has ever given me a compliment like that," she answered simply. "So I
wouldn't know."
"I find that hard to believe," came the reply as Nick now gazed adoringly at
Leigh's face. "But for your sake, I'll believe you... But Leigh?" He stopped her
hands by clasping them into his until she looked up with interest. "You are
beautiful."
Flattered, and yet embarassed, and wondering if he was being truthful, Leigh
found herself trapped and proven wrong. She wasn't sure how to react.
Seemingly tired of talking now, Nick wet his lips and lifted Leigh's chin with
his fingers to plant another kiss on her lips. Instantly, as before, her
insecurities were forgotten as she surrendered to him. His presence was so
strong in her heart, she felt she could drown in the very thought of his touch.
As if reading her mind, Nick leaned her back down on her back and placed his
weight on top of her again.
Knowing his bare chest was pressed against her body sent a thrill of excitement
through Leigh's stomach, and it sent her tongue to his eager mouth as before.
Skillfully Nick worked his hands from here to there, sending shivers through
Leigh's spine. Stopping to stroke this and that, he smiled as he felt her body
begin to respond to his touch.
At one point, Leigh could stand it no longer and began to unfasten the belt on
Nick's pants. Clumbsily her hands worked at it, not going near fast enough to
satisfy her, until finally it came undone and she ripped it from the loopholes
and began to unbutton. Panting, Nick tore away from her mouth long enough to
slide them off, then pressed back to her lips as he began to work at her dress.
Knowing the zipper was in the back, Leigh arched to better enable Nick to find
it. Feeling her press hard into him, Nick moaned even as he unzipped the dress.
Although everything in his body told him to rip it off as fast as possible, Nick
peeled it off slowly as to not scratch Leigh. Her breath coming in short spurts,
Leigh gasped as she noticed it taking so long. "Hurry," she said and then
laughed after Nick slipped the rest off within a few seconds.
Feeling giddy, he lowered to place a tender kiss on Leigh's exposed stomach.
Wiping a bit of silky hair from her brow, she took this time to catch her
breath. "Are we really going to do this?" Nick asked, searching Leigh's face for
a truthful answer.
"Do you want to?" she asked, catching a bit of his golden hair and twirling it
around her slim finger slowly.
"God, yes..." said Nick, the torture obvious in his eyes.
Unable to resist the urge, Leigh nodded. Her voice was quiet but excited as she
confirmed it: "Then let's do it."
Determined to enjoy it, Nick reached underneath Leigh's body and gently eased
her upper back up to unclasp her bra, then pulled it off. She sucked her breath
in as he reached down to slide her panties off with just as much care.
Completely exposed now, Leigh was relieved to see his face show nothing but
admiration.
His job done, Nick looked to Leigh. She reached out and lightly caressed his
side on the way down to his boxer waist, making him laugh. "Don't, don't, that
tickles," he complained light-heartedly. Unable to contain a bit of a laugh
herself, Leigh chuckled and then eased Nick's boxers off, pulling him down onto
her.
"Wow, it's all bared now," said Nick jokingly. "Don't go telling stories to the
tabloids or anything."
Giggling with abandon now, Leigh stuck her tongue out at Nick. "Shut up and stop
joking. How can we do this if we're laughing?"
"You're right, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Nick said, getting the last of his laughs
out. Like a mask his facial expression changed to a more serious one. He ran his
tongue over his lips and looked at Leigh with such desire everything else was
insignificant.
A fleeting feeling of uncertainty passed through Leigh's mind, but she pushed it
away, biting her lip as she eased Nick's face down to hers. She closed her eyes
even before their lips met, savoring the feel of his flesh against her own,
trying to permanently press into her memory the silken touch of his skin, the
heavenly scent of his cologne.
Although his body cried out for a quicker finale, Nick paced himself, treasuring
this for all it was worth. He made each kiss last, each touch tingle. His mouth
left Leigh's briefly for a second and he let a soft moan escape. He could wait
no longer.
Leigh seemed to have the same thought as their bodies began to grind together in
that familiar rocking movement. Carefully he slid himself inside of her and
found their bodies fit right. Leigh let out a scream as he came into her. Nick
sealed it by locking his lips with hers, sweetly, lovingly.
Afterwards, he rested his head on her chest, out of breath. Hardly another thing
in the world could he heard as his breathing seemed the only sound to exist. "Oh
my God..." he said, his chest heaving in and out along with hers.
Leigh mirrored his reaction, not able to find any other words to say. "...Oh my
God..."
After a few moments, Leigh managed to catch her breath and gather her wits once
again. With tenderness she lifted Nick's head up to bring his lips to hers in a
final kiss to cement the night. The blue of his eyes shone wet, almost to the
brink of tears. "Nick, you are so very precious," she whispered lovingly,
offering a smile.
A fragile grin spread across Nick's lips. He slid his arms around Leigh's body
and held her close to him. "Sure, you say that now. Wait 'till you challenge me
to a game of Nintendo."
Leigh laughed.
